FLAMBOYANT MASCULINITY
This project aims to push the boundaries of gender stereotypes and self expression, particularly androgyny. I wanted to design this menswear collection whilst exploring the psychology and stereotypical ideas of 'feminine colours' and how they can be brought into menswear. I wanted to push ideas of good health and wellbeing throughout this project exploring the impacts that negative stereotypes towards men have on their mental health.
Colour and texture are vital in this project so that I could successfully design a modern feminine menswear collection to juxtapose traditional menswear ideas. I am inspired by the flamboyancy in nature such as the surface patterns and textures of exotic fish and birds. This idea is an abstract development of my thoughts coming from the name of the Peacock revolution in the 1960s/ 70s, where menswear became more androgynous and extravagant. |
